Holden and Eug work on the first song. It is written in about an hour, and Eug then tracks the drums. Eug explains a bit about his process. TECH SPECS: All the drums are tracked on Holden’s “old” system, a Windows machine running XP. He uses Cubase to track the drums through a Yamaha mixer and Delta 1010 soundcard, and a Delta 2496 card, for 10 total inputs. It’s a shitty system by any “pro” standards, but it works. The tracks recorded are then transferred as OMF files to Holden’s “new” system, a MacBook Pro running Logic. Then Holden tracks the rest of the instruments using his Apogee Duet soundcard (bass, vocals, etc…).

Thanks to all that have come to see the shows this year and have enjoyed the music thus far.

Eug and I are excited to get to work. We’re going into this first session feeling rebellious, so I anticipate a few of the songs might not fit the previous MSO mold. Or maybe they’ll be the most MSO sounding songs yet. I don’t know… Since talking about music is like dancing about architecture, I’ll simply say that Eug and I are planning on recording 10-12 new songs between now and August 31st. If you want to hear them, you’ll have to sign up for the mailing list at http://www.mysisterocean.com (there happens to be 6 free songs there already from our last EP).

So, tell your friends that My Sister Ocean has some new songs coming down the pipe.

In the meantime, Eug and I will be updating y’all on the progress of our songs in a weekly Podcast on iTunes. You can go there now to subscribe and see my quick lame intro. http://mysisterocean.blip.tv/rss/itunes/ [trust me, there will be plenty of more lameness to come]
